Choose Your Battles

Student leadership tip–Not everything that happens in your group will make you happy.

I’ve had countless students tell me that they quit organizations in their schools just because there was so much back-biting within the team and the leaders did nothing to face it head on and stop it.

Sometimes people won’t get along, or a project will fall behind schedule, or money you’re expecting for funding just doesn’t come through.

Watch what you choose to fight for. Make sure you moderate your level of intensity no matter what the issue, because your team will notice if you stay in control or not.

William James, the father of modern psychology wrote that the art of being wise is “the art of knowing what to overlook.”
